There are 5 by-elections in the last week of September. So far there are 27 in October, 9 of which are in Scotland, along with a further "double"election in Scotland during November. In addition there are a another 5 known vacancies, 4 in England and 1 in Wales. The Independent Councillor in South Staffordshire DC, Essington has not yet resigned some 10 weeks after announcing his attention to do so and has been deleted from the list until there is a definite vacancy.
Currently 25 of the total 101 contests and vacancies occuring since the general election are as a result of the sitting councillor resigning as they are now MPs.
