FOLLOWING Sadiq Khan's election as London Mayor, which has resulted in him standing down as MP for Tooting, bookmakers William Hill have opened a market on who will win the forthcoming by-election there and make Labour 1/10 (90% chance) favourites to retain the seat, with the Tories 11/2 ; Lib Dems and UKIP each offered at 100/1
Labour had a percentage-of-votes cast majority of 5.3% in winning the seat at the General Election and Hills offer 1/6 that they will win by a greater percentage, 7/2 that they will not.
Menawhile, Sadiq Khan has been backed to become the next Labour leader, despite no longer having a seat in Parliament. 'We first offered Sadiq Khan at 66/1 to succeed Jeremy Corbyn but since being elected as Mayor we have halved those odds to 33/1 and have seen support for him' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.
